GWC Update: In-school practical work for NQ courses (18 February 2021)

Following confirmation by the First Minister, from Monday 22 February - Friday 12 March we are able to have small groups of pupils in-school for the purpose of completing practical work in relation to National Qualifications in 2021.


This may involve pupils studying the following subjects:


  • Administration & IT

  • Art & Design

  • Computing Science

  • Design & Manufacture

  • Digital Passport

  • Drama

  • Engineering

  • ESOL (speaking)

  • Games Development

  • Graphic Communication

  • Modern Foreign Languages (speaking)

  • Music

  • Musical Theatre

  • Photography

  • Physical Education*

  • Practical Cookery


*Practical elements of Physical Education and Dance courses can only take place outdoors.


Pupils involved in practical in-school work from Monday 22- Friday 26 February have been informed and no further practical in-school work will be added to this week.


Class teachers will communicate any further in-school practical work for Monday 1 March - Friday 12 March, as soon as possible with their classes.


We have created an overview for pupils and parents of in-school practical work and this can be accessed below from Thursday 18 February.


This Practical Planner will provide further details of in-school practical work, as follows:


  • Monday 1 March - Friday 5 March will be finalised by 4pm on Friday 19 February.


  • Monday 8 March - Friday 12 March will be finalised by 4pm on Thursday 25 February.


Pupils studying one or more of these courses may be required to come into school where it is essential to complete in-school practical work. Individual teachers will communicate these arrangements with pupils as soon as possible and we will continue to keep pupils and parents updated.
