A dedicated cellist and educator from Ipoh, Perak, Yong Zi Ting began her musical journey at the age of 13 and later pursued formal cello studies under the tutelage of Mr. Liew Soon Yee at the age of 18. She has also received masterclasses from distinguished cellists including Eric Yip Chun-hei (Hong Kong Sinfonietta), Yi-Pei Lee (Chinese Culture University, Taiwan), and Mátyás Major (Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra). She also developed her piano skills and music theory alongside her cello training, building a well-rounded musical foundation.
Actively engaged in both teaching and performance, Zi Ting has conducted lessons in Ipoh as well as in Alor Setar, Taiping, Sitiawan, and Kuala Lumpur. She has also worked with university ensembles, including Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).
Her performance experience spans a variety of settings, ranging from airports, hotel lounges, bars, and restaurants. She has also participated in international cultural exchange programmes, collaborating with an Erhu ensemble in Kyoto, Japan in 2023 and 2025. She is currently the principal cellist of Kinta Valley Chinese Orchestra and Malaysia He Yue Chinese Orchestra Group.
