My top 5 questions about Chinese

This post is a difficult one. I've found a straightforward method of learning Chinese that works for me (next post!), and there aren't immediately any questions that come to mind.

1. (cannot be answered as far as I know) Who knows the most Chinese words in the entire world?

2. Why are we taught that Chinese is really difficult?

3. Are idioms something so common in Chinese that you would need to know them for daily life?

4. How hard will a college-level Chinese class (in Taiwan for normal students) be?

5. Do I need to be able to write Traditional characters for assignments in college? Do the Taiwanese know simplified at all?

I know those were some random questions, but they are the most burning questions I have at the moment.
