Argumentative Writing Prompts from the New York Times:
NOTE: The New York Times is a newspaper considered to be one of our national newspapers of record. However, not all content published by the New York Times (or other news organizations) is "straight" news. They usually contain a mix of straight news and opinion journalism. The links above connect you to many opinion journalism pieces that include commentary similar to argumentative essays that you write as a student. Also similar to your work, commentary should be based on facts and evidence.

One of the biggest challenge when searching online databases is figuring out keywords to use when searching. In other words, what are you typing into the search box?
TIP #1: Try simple terms and NOT whole sentences. If you do not have luck with your initial terms, think of synonyms or related terms.
- Example: Instead of searching Do Memes Make the Internet a Better Place?, try searching just memes or internet memes. As you type in search terms, also see suggested Popular Terms and when looking at search results, see Suggested Searches.
TIP #2: Experiment with adding different context terms (see list of sample context terms below) to simple keyword terms. See how search results change.
- Example: Instead of just searching internet memes, try internet memes consequences.
