Healthcare Exploration Summer Institute 2020 (HESI)
This is an intensive summer internship program start June 25th through July 17th. You will gain exposure to healthcare careers in the hospital by rotating through a different department each day. Some of these departments include physical therapy, nursing floors, medical laboratory, endoscopy, radiology, pharmacy, catheterization lab, hyperbarics, sleep lab, women's center, pulmonary, infection control, and the surgical lounge. Students also develop professional workplace skills and familiarize themselves with medical case studies. Limited spots are available for East County San Diego Health Pathway students.

Minimum 16 yrs. old
Completion of Medical Chemistry
Minimum 3.0 GPA
"C" or better in all health pathway courses

How Do I Apply?
- Check the dates to make sure you will be available, and the requirements to ensure that you qualify to participate.
- Complete the 2020 HESI Essay
- Complete the 2020 HESI Application (must be logged in to GUHSD email to access) and submit your 2020 HESI Essay with the application by:
Friday, February 14th at 5:00 p.m.
- Choose a teacher (preferably a health pathway teacher) to complete the 2020 Teacher Recommendation Form. Send them the link to the Google form. Teacher recommendation forms must be submitted by: February 14th
When Will I Know If I Get In?
Applications and Teacher Recommendations will be reviewed by February 17th and students will be interviewed at the Grossmont High School District office between Feb. 18th -March 10th.
Applicants will know if they have been accepted on March 13th , 2020.
Application and Requirements
PLEASE NOTE - If accepted and before participating in the internship students will need to:
Be available to attend an after-school Orientation, mid-March at 3:30 pm-5:30 pm
Show proof of current flu shot given Fall of 2019 or later
Show proof of a Physical Examination after June 2019
Have or obtain a recent (less than 1 year) negative TB test
Show proof of immunizations
Have a current American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification card that does not expire before June 2020
Provide a digital clear head shot photo (JPG format) for a photo ID
