As we reach the end of a very busy half term, I would like to take a moment to reflect on all that our children have achieved. Throughout the past few weeks, pupils have been involved in a wide range of activities both in and out of school, enriching their learning and creating lasting memories. Not least among these were our Year 6 pupils, who recently completed their SATs assessments. We are immensely proud of every one of them for the mature, positive and determined way in which they approached their tests – you were amazing! There have also been many educational visits, sporting events and other opportunities for children to participate in, and I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all of the staff who give their time and energy to support these experiences and enhance the children's learning. We hope that all our families have a restful and enjoyable half-term break. Make the most of the sunshine, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 1st June.

Morning Drop-Off Reminder

To help ensure a calm, positive and productive start to the school day, we would like to remind families that parents and carers should not enter the school building during morning drop-off.

This is an important time for children to come into school independently with their peers, settle into their classroom routines and prepare for the day ahead so that learning can begin promptly.

If you need to speak with your child’s teacher, please either:

make an appointment via the school office,
leave an urgent message with the office staff, or
catch the teacher at the end of the school day if you need to pass on information.

These arrangements are also in line with our safeguarding procedures and help us maintain a safe and secure environment for all children.

Pokémon Cards in School

As a reminder, Pokémon cards (and similar trading cards) are not permitted in school.

This is to help ensure:

focus remains on learning during lessons
disagreements and trading disputes are avoided
valuable items are not lost or damaged
a calm and positive environment is maintained for all pupils

We appreciate your continued support in reinforcing this with your child. Any cards brought into school will be held by staff and returned where appropriate.

Our Year 4 children were given the opportunity to take part in the Young Writers, Ridiculous Writers competition. We are proud to announce that a selection of our Year 4 children have been chosen to have their mini sagas published in "Ridiculous Writers- Awesome Authors" book, coming out later this year. A great achievement to be published authors! Well done to everyone who took part

Join the Barnet Nightingales Girls football team

The nightingales have been creating an amazing environment for girls to play football over the last 20 years. They have teams in a range of different year groups and are looking for any girls interested to join them

Attention Autism

We are working on launching Attention Autism sessions—a fun, high-energy program designed to capture and build the attention of our autistic learners. To make this a success, we need your help! We are looking for "Cause and Effect" toys. These are toys where a simple action (like pressing a button) creates an immediate, exciting result (like lights, music, or movement). They are essential for teaching our children how their actions affect the world around them.

We are looking for donations of:

light-up and musical toys, such as pop-up boxes, light-up spinning tops, or musical buttons
action toys, such as Marble runs, wind-up toys, or "stomp rockets"
sensory items such as, bubble machines

If you have any of these gathering dust at home, please consider donating them to us as they will help our students develop vital skills like curiosity and joint attention.

We are also hoping to launch Lego-Based Therapy sessions!

This isn't just about playing with lego; it's a social skills intervention where students work in teams as "Engineers," "Suppliers," and "Builders" to complete a project.

This therapy helps our students improve their communication, turn-taking, and teamwork in a way that feels like play rather than work.

We are in need of standard Lego bricks (not Duplo). We aren't necessarily looking for complete sets - loose bricks and baseplates, are extremely valuable for this project to be launched.

Please drop off donations at the school office.

We kindly ask that bricks are clean and genuine Lego brand to ensure they fit together properly.

Your old bricks could help a child build their confidence.

Reading Corner

Our Reading Ambassadors visited classrooms again last to read the next entry to the Carnegie Illustration Awards.

Here are some of the pupil’s views:

“The pictures were nice because they looked realistic. You could see how the characters were feeling through the emotions expressed on their faces.’

“It was interesting. The girl’s world was seen through darker colours because she was sad, but the boy’s world was brighter as he was happy.”

“I’m jealous of my friends sometimes.”

“The darkness of the pages demonstrated the sadness behind the story.”

“The images with the rain and storm looked really dramatic. I was frightened fort the characters.”

“I like the happiness at the end of the story. These pages are bright and facial expressions are happy. The family found safety.”

“Dramatic images.”

Barnet Libraries are running a full programme of events in May half term. Featuring puppet making workshops, a theatre production of The Book Witch, a Sing, Story and Sign session and a host of craft events including collage, star wars and t-shirt decorating. All events are free or low cost.

Families are welcome to visit the library to read and choose books too.

Chatter Matters

IT'S GOOD TO TALK!

Pupils had fun this week completing our third whole-school oracy challenge.

Pupil’s in pairs explored the questions – What is the best season of the year?

Exploring means listening to other people’s ideas, asking questions, and sometimes changing your mind.

When you talk to explore, you don’t need to be “right” – instead, you’re building your understanding by hearing and thinking about different opinions.

This challenge will support pupils in developing the following skills.
