Experiment 4

Aim of the Experiment

Separation of Three Components from given Ternary Mixture of Organic Compounds Qualitatively and Identification of its components/ (Experiment 4 to 8)

Materials required

Test tubes, test tube holder, Bunsen burner, reagents etc

Principle:

Separation and identification of organic compound

Systematic analysis of two components. (Binary organic mixture).mp4
Systematic analysis of two components (Binary organic mixture) 1.mp4
Exp-4 Separation of three components from given Ternary mixture of organic compound and Identification of its components.mp4

Procedure

Procedure includes two parts

Part I Separation of given binary/ternary organic mixture by utilizing their difference in chemical reactivity or physical properties.

Part II Identification of individual components using following steps

  1. Preliminary Tests (colour, state, odour, heating on copper foil)

  2. Detection of elements (Lassaigne`s test)

  3. Deterction of functional group

  4. Determination of physical constants (m.p./b.p.)

  5. Preparation of derivatives

Result

The given organic mixture consist of following organic compounds

A........

B........

C........

Questions

  1. Chemistry of Lassaigne`s test?

  2. How to differentiate phenolic and acidic compound using simple chemical test?

  3. Which tests tell us about the unsaturation present in organic compund?

  4. What are the tests to confirm presence of carbonyl functional group?

  5. Tests to identify phenolic compounds?
