To prepare Phenyl-glucosazone from Glucose.
Glucose forms osazone when it is treated with excess of phenyl hydrazine.
Chemicals:
Glucose 2 g
Phenyl hydrazine (liquid) 4 ml
Glacial acetic acid 4 ml
Apparatus:
Beaker, water bath, filteration set, boling tube (if available)
Dissolve glucose (2 g ) in about 10 ml of water in a boiling tube. Add 4 ml of phenyl hydrazine and 4 ml of glacial acetic acid to the above boling tube.Heat the mixture in a water bath for about an hour with constant shaking. The osazone separates as yellow solid. The tube is cooled, filtered at the pump and dried.Recrystallize from alcohol m.p. above 200 0C
Amount of Glucose taken = g
Amount of glucosazone formed = g
Calculation:
180 g of glucose gives 358 g of glucosazone
Therefore,2 g of glucose would give __________?
(x) g of glucosazone X = 358 x 2 /180 = g
Experimental yield = g
%Yield = x 100 %
i) Yield of glucosazone = %
ii) Melting point of glucosazone = 0C. (Reported value =204°C)
What is difference between fructose and glucose.
