To prepare Hexa Ammine Nickel (II) Chloride
NiCl2.6H2O + 6NH3 → [Ni(NH3)6]Cl2 + 6H2O
Chemicals Required:
Nickel Chloride(3 gm), Nickel Ammonia (6-10 ml)
Apparatus Required:
Beaker, Glass Road, Glass Funnel, Filter paper, Conical Flask.
Dissolve 6 grams Nickel Chloride in 10 ml warm water.
Filter if any insoluble impurities are present.
Add about (10-12 ml) Ammonia drop wise with constant stirring.
Until the green precipitate of Nickel Hydroxide has dissolved.
Add about 5 ml alcohol and stir well.
Allow the mixture to stand at room temperature for 30 minutes.
Filter the crystals of Hexa Ammine Nickel(II) chloride.
Wash with alcohol.
Dry and weigh the product.
Molecular Weight of Nickel Chloride NiCl2.H2O - 147.19 gm/mol
Molecular Weight of complex(Hexa Ammine Nickel (II) Chloride) - 232 gm/mol
If 147.19 gm of Nickel Chloride gives 232 gm of complex(Hexa Ammine Nickel (II) Chloride)
Then 6 gm of Nickel Chloride gives ………………..
