To prepare Hexa Thiourea Plumbus Nitrate.
Pb(NO3)2 + 6 ( H2N-CS-NH2) → [Pb (Th)6](NO3)2.3H2O
Lead Nitrate Thiourea Hexa Thio urea plumbus nitrate
CHEMICALS USED: - Lead nitrate(6 gm), Thiourea(9 gm), Distilled water, Concentrated HNO3.
APPARATUS REQUIRED: -Beaker, Glass Road, Glass Funnel, Filter paper, Conical Flask
Dissolve 6 gm lead nitrate Pb(NO3)2 in 20 ml H2O
In another beaker dissolve 9 grams thiourea in 30ml hot water.
Mix the two solution slowly with constant stirring.
Filter the crystals and recrystalise them by using minimum quantity of 5 ml concentrated HNO3 and hot water.
On cooling colourless crystals separates out.
Cool the solution and filter the crystals obtained.
Dry and weigh the product.
Molecular Weight of lead nitrate - 331.2 gm/mol
Molecular Weight of Hexa Thiourea Plumbus Nitrate- 841 gm/mol
If 331.2 gm of Lead Nitrate gives 841 gm of Hexa Thio Urea plumbus Nitrate,
Then 6 gm of Lead Nitrate gives …………….
