In Unit 1 Lesson 3, students explore ways to handle cyberbullying and how to respond in the face of upsetting language online. Students discuss all the ways they use technology for communication, put themselves in the shoes of children who are cyberbullied on a kids’ game website, and explore both the similarities and differences between in-person versus online communication. Students then brainstorm ways to respond to cyberbullying.
Below you will find the complete lesson plan packet as well as the student sheets separated into individual files for easy reproducing, or you can copy them to your Drive and then share them through Google Classroom.
Also, you will find supplementary material that has been prepared to make implementing the lesson much easier.
All lessons are used freely through Common Sense Media and Common Sense Education. Images in the presentations are all licensed through Creative Commons. (Source)
Teacher Materials & Preparation:
- Review the lesson plan and Nearpod presentation to familiarize yourself with the activities and keywords. Worksheet activities maybe included in the Nearpod presentation.
- Students may require paper to take notes, make sketches, and jot ideas down at some points during this lesson.
- Preview the video "Power of Words," (below) and prepare to show it to students.
Addition Information:
- You will need to organize students into groups of four to read a short story and to create a scenario.
