In Unit 1 Lesson 4, students learn strategies to increase the accuracy of their keyword searches. They compare the number and kinds of sites obtained and make inferences about the effectiveness of the strategies.
Below you will find the complete lesson plan packet as well as the student sheets separated into individual files for easy reproducing, or you can copy them to your Drive and then share them through Google Classroom.
Also, you will find supplementary material that has been prepared to make implementing the lesson much easier.
All lessons are used freely through Common Sense Media and Common Sense Education. Images in the presentations are all licensed through Creative Commons. (Source)
Teacher Materials & Preparation:
- Review the lesson plan and Nearpod presentation to familiarize yourself with the activities and keywords. Worksheet activities maybe included in the Nearpod presentation.
- Have a few small items available for the warm-up activity.
- Review all directions for the keyword search activity (it includes multiple steps) and ensure that students have paper to take notes.
- Select and preview a search engine to use in class (preferably Google).
- Prepare the assigned paris for the activities.
Addition Information:
- For one activity, students will need to open a search engine in a separate tab (or window) and record their answers while they complete an internet search. Review the directions and prepare any additional support students may need.
