Empowering Veterans, Nourishing Communities

Growing Healthy Veterans (GHV) is dedicated to engaging veterans, active-duty military as well as the surrounding community of North Chicago in sustainable agricultural practices that enhance their physical and mental well-being. Our mission goes beyond cultivating gardens; we aim to connect veterans with their communities through meaningful projects. We are committed to addressing food scarcity in under-served communities by empowering veterans and the community to create a food oasis. Through the utilization of our community garden, we provide veterans with opportunities for reintegration into society, exposure to horticulture, and a chance to make a lasting impact on North Chicago's food landscape.

GHV Celebrates $150,000 Investment from State of Illinois

NORTH CHICAGO – Growing Healthy Veterans, an organization in North Chicago dedicated to healing veterans through horticulture and providing healthy food for the community, received $150,000 to expand operations, thanks to State Senator Adriane Johnson.

“We are extremely excited about this funding,” Growing Healthy Veterans Board President Ellen Ewing said. “Our garden plots are all claimed, and this site has so much potential to help end the food desert in North Chicago."
