Susan Wines’ enthusiasm for music and teaching began as double bass player in middle school. It continued to develop through teacher encouragement as well as participation in All-State, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, and several Honor Orchestras. After high school, Susan Wines attended Converse College where she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelors of Music in Instrumental Music Education. In 2008, she initiated the Band & Strings program at Ralph Chandler Middle School in Simpsonville, SC. While teaching at Ralph Chandler Middle, she established a beginning and intermediate program for band and strings as well as a full orchestra honors ensemble. These ensembles traveled to Music Festivals in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina and received numerous Superior Ratings. In 2016, she accepted a new position as Director of Orchestras at Wade Hampton High School. In addition to teaching, she has enjoyed her role of being an adjudicator Concert Performance Assessment and Solo & Ensemble Festival; assisting the Wade Hampton High School Bands; a guest speaker and mentor for pre-service teachers; and guest conductor for Region Orchestras as well as at several Summer Music Camps in the Mid-West, Northeast and Southeast regions. Susan Wines is lead strings teacher of Greenville County, Greenville County Youth Orchestra Sinfonia Conductor, SC-ASTA President, SCMEA Orchestra Division Board Member and has been recognized as a WYFF Golden Apple Teacher Award Recipient as well as Teacher of the Year.
