Career
I have served as a Professional School Counselor for 3 years. Year 4 is my first year at Paris Elementary.
Before joining the Paris Elementary team, I was a Professional School Counselor at Alexander Elementary. I served as a Long-Term Substitute School Counselor at a GCSD high school (November 2020 - June 2021) and GCSD elementary school (February 2020 - June 2020). I had internships at elementary, middle, and high schools.
I used to teach high school math! I taught for 4 years (August 2015 - June 2019) at Carolina High School. I taught Algebra 1 and Geometry, and co-taught introductory science. We used a Project-Based Learning "PBL" approach that incorporated many of the skills that future employers want like accountability, creativity, and critical thinking.
Fun summer jobs like:
Hollywild Animal Park (zoo)
fire department (office and payroll)
ice cream shop (also served a limited diner menu)
Dollar General
shaved-ice (snow-cone) food truck
Family:
My husband and I have been married since 2016. My husband is a software engineer.
We share our house with two cats, Freya and Meeka.
My parents and oldest brother work in the automotive industry. My parents have a small business, Ward Motor Company, that offers mechanic and towing services.
My other older brother does something that I call "production forecasting". He helps his company decide what materials they need to order and how many products to create. He gets to travel to northern Europe for company meetings. I also have a fun-loving sister-in-law who is a PA (physician's assistant) and a two young nephews who explore life.
I have several relatives in the area who do some cool things like cosmetology, nursing in the hospital ICU (Intensive Care Unit), real estate, social services for specialty medical treatment, auto-sales and marketing, first responders (EMS), and a dentist!
What I like:
Travel
Outdoor activities like kayaking and hiking
Volunteering & leadership
Dancing (salsa, bachata, and free-style)
People!
Soft pink, dark blue, and gold
Geometric patterns (hmm... perhaps that is related to being a math teacher?)
Taco Bell
Casseroles
Some other facts about me:
I like listening to podcasts while I'm driving.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a tour guide.
I played soccer long ago, but I did not play in school because I am not competitive. I still like to play soccer for fun.
I learned a little Spanish in high school, but I learned much more from my students. I learned to teach basic math in Spanish.
I have been known to hula-hoop for 42 minutes straight.
