Heart of Gold

Thank you to all who came out to support the Heart of Gold Ball! What a great time If you have other pictures, please send them!

All the students had so much fun creating old-fashioned homemade Valentine's for children in Greenville Memorial Hospital. We used doilies, learned how to make hearts, and used lots and lots of stickers. What a beautiful way to celebrate the holiday of love. We appreciated how lucky we are!

Poetry with Book Buddies

We enjoyed working with Ms. Gilden's First Grade Class to help them create their own "I AM" poem. We then helped them make a beautiful background for their poem using watercolors and "lines." Enjoy it the slide show. Come see the finished projects in Ms. Gilden's Hallway!

Jean Hunt, a Greenville, SC native is the author of a series of children’s books inspired by her real-life experiences with animals. She visited Stone Academy January 24, 2019 to share the experiences of Bogey and Mattie. She has created a new coloring book to benefit the new Cancer Survivors Park. Thanks for sharing your love of books and your stories Ms. Hunt!

We Made ELECTROMAGNETS! - click on picture

Our class had fun learning about how electric currents flow through a wire and generating a magnetic field. The magnetic field can be increased by coiling the wire and allowing more current to flow through a small distance which increases the magnetic field. Click on picture to see our discovery!

On December 7th we headed to Roper Mountain Science Center. We experienced life as a South Carolina colonist. We worked on the farm, mucking stalls, picked cotton, pumped water, fed the cow, horse, chicken and pig! We learned a little of how difficult slave life was and walked through an actual slave house. Later we discovered South Carolina minerals and how we use them everyday. We then got to "Mine" for a special mineral. Finally, we were lucky enough to observe and hold many South Carolina animals. We talked about how they adapted to their surroundings. Thank you again to Roper Mountain Science Center . Click on the picture for a small look at our day.

Thank you to all our "Enchanted Readers" who made this week extra special!

https://kristydempsey.com/

10/10/2018

Published author, Kristy Dempsey, came to Stone to talk with all the grade levels about different writing topics. Third graders learned about how stories are written. Mrs. Dempsey has published many books. Some of our favorites are Dance like Starlight, Surfer Chick, and Superhero Manual.

Many thanks to Mrs. Littlejohn and our Stone PTA for the PTA grant that provided the funding for this program.

BOOK TASTING WITH MS. LITTLEJOHN

Thank you Ms Littlejohn for hosting our Book Tasting on September 11,2018.

We had a great time "sampling" different genres of books and getting a "taste" for what types of books we enjoy. What a wonderful way to start the year! The library is an amazing place. This year we get to go to the library on our own and check out THREE books!
