About me

I have been teaching for 23 years.  I started at a boarding school and taught all 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade subjects.  For 21 years, I taught 6th and 7th grade ELA in the Oconee School District.  I have a Ph.D. in Education Leadership and am a certified administrator.  I want to join a team to help with the ongoing improvement of our educational system. I believe in solid foundations at the elementary level and rigorous instruction throughout while developing happy, productive citizens.

Most importantly, I am a mother of two grown sons and two grown daughters.  I am also a grandmother of five.  My grandmother's name is Maimeo (Irish for Grandmother).

I love getting to know all my students and look forward to developing great readers!

One Book, One School Novel Selection - Restart by Gordon Korman: Author Gordon Korman is a Canadian born author who has written over 100 stories for children and teens and now resides in New York. His 2017 novel Restart is written in short chapters that reflect on the life of Chase Ambrose. It is a story of self-awareness, reflection, and transformation as Chase enters into a new life after falling off his roof and losing his memory! He begins to see himself as his classmates do… the biggest superstar- but also the biggest bully. Themes of new beginnings, second chances, and friendship are revealed as Chase regains bits of memory, and ultimately must make a choice between who he used to be and who he could become. Korman’s novel has won numerous children and teen book awards, as well as local “battle of the book” competitions. It is the Keystone to Reading Book Award winner, and may inspire a discussion about our choices, reputations, and the impact of our behaviors on people and their loved ones. The novel offers a positive journey of self discovery and friendship as Chase shakes off his past decisions, and makes new ones about the kind of person he wants to be.
