Syllabus

Mrs. Bell’s 4th Grade Syllabus

Welcome to a new school year! I am thrilled to be a member of the Paris Elementary Fourth Grade team, and I am anticipating a wonderful year ahead for all my fourth graders.

Fourth grade is a year of many changes. Students advance from primary education to more challenging intermediate studies. In addition to advanced learning experiences, students mature socially as well. Fourth graders will be expected to become more responsible for their own education with the guidance of parents and teachers.

Home-School Communication

I believe communication is so important to the success of the student. Please feel free to contact me for any reason. We can keep in touch through email, phone calls, notes, and conferences.

Classroom Management

We will use a variety of positive behavior incentives in our classroom. Each student will have the opportunity to earn Behavior Bucks for positive behavior or lose bucks for negative behavior. Parents will be informed of their child's behavior through weekly folders, phone calls, and emails. Students will be able to exchange bucks for rewards!

Homework and Weekly Folders

Homework will be given Monday through Thursday and will be due the next morning. Parents should expect to see Math practice, spelling practice as needed, reading for 20 minutes, and reviewing any science and social studies study guides for upcoming tests.

Every Tuesday, students will bring home their Weekly folder with graded work. Please review the grades and sign the form, signifying the papers have been seen.

Grading

The district computer grading program is PowerSchool. Reading, Language/Spelling, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Handwriting are the assessed areas.

*Major grades are 40% and Minor grades are 60%

Grading Scale = (100-90: A, 89-80: B, 79-70: C, 69-60: D: 59 or lower: F)

Reminders

*When a student is absent, he/she is responsible for making up any missed work. They are allowed one makeup day for each absence.

*When sending money to school, please put it in a sealed envelope, labeled with your child’s name and what it is regarding.

*If your child will be going home a different way than usual, we must receive a written note or phone call to the office. Otherwise, students will be sent home using their regular mode of transportation.

*Come prepared and be on time for class each day. Come in quietly and be ready to do your best! Having a good start to the day is so important.
