Week of 10/29 - 11/2

This week is going to be crazy! (Mainly because Halloween is smack in the middle of the week! Yay! 😵) But also because Westward Expansion Day this Thursday (11/1/18). The kiddos and I have been discussing this for awhile, so they know all about what they can dress up as and some of the fun wild West stuff we will be doing that day!

Math: This week in math we will move away from adding with a number line (Praise!) and move towards adding with area models. By Friday we should be adding fractions the "regular" way without any models or manipulatives.

Reading: This week in reading we will continue talking about nonfiction texts. We will continue to review over different text features found in informational texts (index, table of contents, maps, captions, headings, etc.). We will also discuss a variety of text structures for informational texts.

Language Arts: We WILL have spelling this week. We will wrap up our unit on the RACE strategy. Due to Westward Expansion Day we will only have ELA 3 days this week, so I may have to play with my plans and schedule a bit. We will see!

Social Studies: This week in Social Studies we will continue to study the Native American chiefs (students already have this information glued into their journals) more in detail. We will have a quiz on the chiefs one day this week. I know it'll be after Wednesday, but which day I can squeeze it in depends on Mrs. Martin. We will also study more on the immigrants who helped construct the Transcontinental Railroad.

Monday: No graded work

Tuesday: Challenge Day/ No graded work

Wednesday: Halloween (kids will be too crazy for graded work)

Thursday: Westward Expansion Day/ No graded work

Friday: Spelling/ Stems Quiz + SS Quiz
