Grading Guidelines
Greenville County Schools-Grading in the Elementary Related Arts-
Grades K5-5:
Students will be graded with either:
“M” (meets standards) or
“P” (progressing towards standards).
Each 9 weeks, these grades will be added to the student’s report card electronically or sent to the classroom teacher who will record the related arts grades on the paper report card (K5 and 1st).
Each teacher will keep a hard copy/grade book for classes.
After every class meeting, a student will receive one of the following grades: an Active Class Participation grade or a Standards-Based Assessment grade.
Teachers must use the common District rubric when awarding art, music, or physical education active class participation grades.
Teachers should award at least 2 Standards-Based Assessment grades each quarter.
There will be a breakdown of participation 80% and standards based assessment 20%) in elementary related arts.
Grades will be entered into Power teacher at the end of each quarter.
Board Policy requires progress reports to be sent to parents of any student at risk of failing for the quarter. In related arts classes, “at-risk of failing” means those students showing “little to no progression towards standards.”

Classroom Expectations
Expectations for the Gym:
Wear your tennis shoes/athletic shoes to class. Be prepared to participate, try new things all with a positive attitude. Be respectful to your PE teachers by listening and not talking while he or she is giving instructions. Be respectful to your classmates-encourage one another, be kind, and helpful. Be respectful to our class equipment, take care of it like it's your own!
Code Words in the Gym:
Huddle Up – Everyone comes and sits in front of the coach to go over the next activity or game
Home Base – The students will go and sit or stand on their assigned spot
We use these code words to stop and start a game or activity, to go over the rules, or to talk about the good things we see happening for example good sportsmanship and kindness, or to get ready to go back to class.
Communication with Parents
We communicate with parents when necessary for discipline concerns or to share good stories of what is happening in class with their child. Emails, notes home, and phone calls are ways we communicate with our parents.
