Last year in 3rd grade students used the base-ten place value system to learn numbers in the thousands period. In this unit, students will extend their understanding of the base-ten place value structure to the millions period. Students will also explore the three-position periods that define our base-ten number system, explain the names of different positions within one million, and the values of digits in them. Students extend their understanding of place value and number sense through representing numbers in different forms, comparing multi-digit numbers, and rounding multi-digit numbers.
