ATHENA HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER READING 2019
How about reading a book for a fun and exciting way to kick off your summer?
The goal of the Greece Central School District’s Summer Reading Program is to encourage students to develop a lifelong interest in reading because the benefits of becoming an active, fluent reader are numerous. Children who read during the summer enhance their reading skills and prevent summer learning loss. When students are offered choices that are of interest to them, it fosters a love of reading and inspires students to be lifelong readers.
Athena students will be asked to read at least one book over the summer. There are grade-appropriate lists on the bottom of the library web page, but students are encouraged to consult with their local library or bookstore as well to find additional books of interest. Once they have chosen a book, they have the whole summer to read it.
When students return in September, English teachers will be giving an assignment in class as an opportunity for students to earn credit for reading over the summer. Please go to the link below to view the book list.
