My name is Dr. Megan Ybarra, and I am your child's teacher for this year.
While I am currently on maternity leave, I wanted to share a bit about myself to help you get to know me better.
I have been a part of the local community for the past 19 years, having grown up here and attended Sierra High School. Following my passion for understanding human history and cultures, I pursued a degree in Archaeology and Anthropology at Humboldt State University, where I graduated in 2010. Later, I obtained a Masters Degree in Teaching and Learning from Brandman University. Recently, I had the honor of completing my Doctorate in Education with an emphasis in Organizational Leadership at the University of Massachusetts.
Beyond my professional endeavors, my family occupies most of my free time. My husband, Dustin, and I recently welcomed our first child, a little boy named Grayson. I am the oldest of two siblings, and my little brother is now happily married. Spoiling my nephew has become one of my greatest joys. As for hobbies, I indulge in Crossfit, crafting, and reading. Additionally, I have a soft spot for musicals and can often be found singing Disney and Broadway songs with the greatest encouragement from my dog Ragnar.
With great enthusiasm, I am excited to announce that this will be my tenth year teaching 7th grade at GVA. Before joining this incredible school, I dedicated two years of my life as a Peace Corps Volunteer, teaching in the Philippines. Teaching 7th grade has truly become my passion, and my mission is to instill a lifelong love for learning in my students. I approach my teaching with genuine passion and aim to ignite a desire for knowledge within each student. I strongly encourage you to reach out if you have any questions or concerns throughout the year. Open communication between us is vital, and I am always available to chat whenever you feel the need.
I am also delighted to introduce our long-term substitute teacher, Mrs.Kimberly Balousek, who has been an integral part of the GVA community for over a decade. Her experience and dedication to education have positively impacted countless students throughout the years. As a highly respected member of our teaching staff, Mrs. Balousek brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our classroom. Rest assured; your children will be in excellent hands during my absence.
As we embark on this exciting new school year, I am filled with anticipation for the journey ahead. I cannot wait to meet each of you and build a strong partnership to support your child's education. Together, we will foster a nurturing and inspiring learning environment where our students can thrive. Thank you for entrusting me with your child's education. I am truly honored to be a part of their educational journey and look forward to a fantastic year together!
Warmest regards,
Dr. Megan Ybarra
