Embracing Growth: First Weeks of School

The first couple of weeks of school have flown by at Proctor Jr./Sr. High School, and the enthusiasm of the students is high.
Transitioning back to school after summer can be hard for many students. To understand the experience better, students shared their perspectives on what they enjoy, what challenges they face, and what they look forward to.
Silas Long, a 9th grader, appreciates the variety of classes available in high school and the patience of the teachers. “I really like band because it felt like something I was used to,” he says. The consistency for students is a major plus at Proctor.
Looking ahead, Silas is excited for the upcoming science fair, despite admitting to his tendency to procrastinate.
Maura Thompson, a 12th grader, says she “enjoys the community and the opportunities given.” She says the best part of school is “getting to see everyone again. I think that I kinda just missed being around the somewhat chaos of our class.”
For many students, being on time for school is hard. “I'm just trying my best to be on time for school every day and ensure I'm doing my part,” Callyn Smith, a 12th grader, said, showing a commitment to contributing positively to the school community.
Fellow Senior Ari Camp added with a smirk, “I strive to show up to school every day this year.”
For the youngsters like seventh-grader Jayden Bedard, this year marks his first in the high school building. “I'm excited for all the fun and advanced classes,” he shared, reflecting on the common theme among the students to explore new academic challenges. A major highlight for Jayden is the freedom to play basketball after lunch, a welcome change from the elementary school's routine.
So, as Proctor students settle into the school year and the classrooms are filled, let's keep the momentum going! Whether you're enjoying new classes, catching up with friends, or maybe even just “having” the chance to play some basketball, here's to making the most of it at Proctor.
