Proctor students express concerns with the cafeteria food, wishing for a wider variety of options and less greasy pizza.
This year, the cafeteria has switched to a new food provider; The Abbey Group. “There’s less options this year,” says junior Roy Gee, talking about how this year's menu selection compares to last year. Students also wish the cafeteria had a wider variety of drinks, specifically wanting water to be sold.
Both Roy and Mitchell Knowles expressed similar ideas saying “The pizza is so greasy it sticks to the cardboard.”
However, the cafeteria staff report that they have limited options that are based on what The Abbey Group provides.
“I would change the variety and give the students more of a variety to drink,” Melanie Stone, one of the cooks for the cafeteria says.
Amongst the students, the tater tots, nachos, and chicken sandwich are popular favorite lunch items.
The budget for school lunch is determined by the GRCSU district. Then it is ratified by district voters. From there, a provider (such as The Abbey Group) is selected. The selection is based upon cost, quality, how they treat their workers, and more.
The cafeteria workers do the best with what they have, and in the end, who can really complain about free food?
