The 7th grade class expresses diverse opinions about moving up to the junior high school. Most feel free from the strict rule set of the elementary school, while others feel nothing has changed. However, most expressed that the transition is a big step in their education; they are given more responsibility and privileges.
“I think that it’s nice,” Tyler Harrington said, talking about hallway etiquette, “that instead of walking in a line from class to class and that a teacher has to walk you. It’s a lot less strict.” Tyler was one of many who expressed their enjoyment at having more freedom and being able to travel the halls alone.
“We have to go to different teachers.” Riley Eugair said, talking about some of the other big differences between the elementary school and the junior high school.
Even with all the upsides, students say there are some downsides too. Many of them miss their teachers and friends from elementary school. However, they have found new teachers and friends at the junior high school.
Many 7th graders pointed out Ms. Weinberg as their favorite teacher so far. Others also said Ms. Fox and Mr. Curtis. They also shared their favorite classes. “I think the classes are really good.” Tyler said, pointing out that his favorite class is social studies. Math was also a popular favorite class.
Overall, 7th graders are excited about the next six years at the junior/senior high school
