The first step in becoming a teacher is observing what you'll do. Graduating next year from Vermont State University Castleton, Sally Zuk is getting closer to the occupation she wants as she shadows Ms. Esslinger.
The very reason she’s observing Ms. Esslinger is because she wants to become a physical education teacher. Her school also requires it.
Speaking about Ms. Esslinger, Sally says she is the “most positive person I have ever met, she’s so good at encouraging people and she is a delight.”
Sally said the reason she wants to be a PE teacher is because she’d much rather move and be active as a career than sit at a desk all day.
Her career goal is to find a fun place to teach and she said while she is at Proctor she is looking forward to “getting to know all the students” and “seeing how the school works”.
“Sally is very personable, approachable, friendly, outgoing and has been able to connect with several students throughout her time here,” Ms. Esslinger says.
Ms. Esslinger has had six student teachers and about eight students who have needed to get observation hours over her 24 years teaching here.
Sally’s advice for becoming a PE teacher is, “Someone that really wants to do it and enjoys a lot of different sports.”
