Mrs. Lucia has been teaching at Proctor for two years, but she has had many different teaching jobs over the last decade. From babies to teenagers, she has worked with many different age groups throughout the years. However, one thing remains the same, she loves helping kids no matter the age group.
Mrs. Lucia started her career in education working at a daycare. “For three years I worked in a daycare where I took care of infants between the ages of 6 weeks until they were 2 years old. I worked full time in this day care while getting my master in education at the College of St Joseph in Rutland.” After Mrs. Lucia completed her masters program, she went on to teach at Christ the King.
After she was hired at Christ the King, she held several positions working there. “Because the school was so small you had to wear many hats. Some of the jobs I had were science teacher, PE teacher, school crossing guard, organizer of the Veterans Day Prayer Service, and the DJ for the father daughter dance.” Mrs. Lucia described how every day was different, and the role she ended up being everyday was a mystery.
During the summers, Mrs Lucia worked as a tutor for Rutland Middle School, which provided her an opportunity to become a special educator at Fair Haven Union High School. Mrs. Lucia described why she decided to leave Fair Haven in 2021. “I worked in this role until I had my daughter in 2021 and then I decided to work at a school closer to my house. One of the main reasons I came to Proctor was because I used to go to school in this district and had very fond memories of it growing up.”
Mrs. Lucia said she enjoys Proctor Jr/Sr High School and hopes to work here until she retires. “I like that it's a smaller school. I feel like I get to know the students on a more school based level and you can really build that positive relationship with them.”
