The year 2024 housed a number of trends that shaped how people dressed, acted, and went on with their day to day lives. Influencers and TikTok promoted new and hot things that greatly impacted the dazzling world of fashion. Here, are some fashion trends of 2024 that are most likely to be collecting dust in your closet:
Bows
The uproar of bows in early 2024 was led by the movement of making all items in your possession “cutesy”, to fit the light and girly coquette aesthetic, much like the style of pop singer Lana Del Ray. The singer possessed a very girly and vintage aesthetic that was much like a film that was very attractive to her fans. It then became trendy to live with the coquette aesthetic when everyday was to be whimsical. To add the little girly touch of a bow, was what made every outfit and accessory camera and TikTok ready! People in 2024 were tying bows into their hair, onto their clothing, and even their bags. The growth of bows online started to make its way into stores in the summer, and became something you wouldn't have to add to your clothes and accessories. Bows were in stores on cups, shoes, tops and sweaters, hair clips, as well as some home decor. As the trend started to unfold, bow accessories were bought left and right which caused companies to create more cute bowed items. It wasn't until the early fall of 2024 that people became tired of the bows appearing everywhere they went shopping. The need and general want of bows in fashion or home decor became worn out and overused by brands and department stores, as the coquette trend had faded as well. Adding bows to everything had become “too old” in the TikTok world and the public felt they were used too much, leading to the fall of bows. Though there is not a need or trend that involves bows moving into 2025, bows will still show up every now and then and still have the potential to add just a touch of cuteness in your life.
Leopard Print
Glamour! Blonde! Leopard print took the spot of the trending animal print of the year in 2024. Gen Z’s love for reviving past trends, specifically in the 90s/2000s, brought back the leopard and cheetah prints. Animal prints have been trending since the early 90’s, but the eye-catching cheetah and leopard print was especially popular during the earlier 2000’s. Y2K fashion has been back in fashion for a few years, and starting 2024, was the revival of the leopard print especially. The purpose of the leopard print was to add a bit of flair to an outfit without having to dress up and accessorize your outfits. “Glamour”, by Artem Shilovets, nkeeei and uniqe was the soundtrack to this trend on TikTok in 2024. Don’t forget to grab the leopard print top at the bottom of your dresser and decide if this print will remain the animal print of 2025!
Athleisure Wear/Lululemon
Everybody was zipping up their Lululemon defining jackets to pair with their sculpting leggings to make the perfect outfit in 2024. Going on alternative diets and trying out workout routines to stay in shape had to be accommodated with the perfect workout clothes. The body-morphing talents of Lululemon became wildly popular, with the ability to make every body type look “snatched” and fit. The brand's style and technique became so loved that other brands attempted to replicate it, which sent the public out to find “Lululemon dupes”. Since Lululemon’s prices were higher than athletic wear should be, people slowly started to resort to the alternative options that still have the same chic essence to their workout gear. Although parts of the public shifted away from higher end(and more expensive) athletic wear, it doesn't take away from the general adoration of making workout apparel trendy and fun.
Stanley Cups
Following the trend of being health based and fit in the year of 2024, Stanely cups were exactly what the public needed to maintain their health craze. Drinking water this year became a huge trend, as it should be a trend that is popular every year; drinking water out of a cute cup became the newest trend of last year. The Stanely was your ideal cup that could keep you hydrated for hours with a range of cups up to 64oz, that kept your ice cold water, ice cold for longer. Stanley cups are on this list because to be seen with your outfit, is to be seen with your accessories, and what is a better accessory than your $45 pink water bottle? What burned out the Stanley surge was the issues with the prices being around $25-55 which most saw as too much for a cup that your local Target had for $12 in a different brand. Some people also found that the Stanley was “not worth the hype” and didn’t live up to the exuberant public reputation. Leaving 2024, most people can find their Stanley cup collecting dust next to their scrunchy covered Hydro Flask from 2019.
Uggs
While Gen Z was gearing up in their athleisure wear and Stanley, they needed some stylish slip-on shoes that would match the “vibe”. Uggs became the “it” shoe of 2024, with the slip-on styles of the “Disquette” or “Tasmanian” styles. Uggs have been popular since the early 2000’s and have been trending continuously with different styles of comfy footwear; 2024 in specific, was the year for slipper-type Ugg products. The Uggs were good for on-the-go wear and made your fit look effortlessly cute, which is what made the trend a staple for your closet. The best part about pairing any outfit with your Uggs in 2024, was that the shoes were for any season and extremely versatile. Dupes for Uggs have always been around since the brand grew bigger, which led to people who adored Uggs(but not the price)to engage in the fashion statement. The trend of Tasmanian or Disquette styled Uggs died down, closing out of 2025, but the love of the Ugg brand itself still remains!
The fashion trends of 2024 had the media GAGGED and the people’s pockets left astonishingly empty. 2024 was the year of revival of past trends and styles, to elongate the legacy of beloved gems that the generations before Gen Z had loved as well. Were some of these items in your household left untouched, or were these trends worth our coins?
