After ten years of teaching at PrHS, Band Director Ms. Papandrea feels that the ever evolving band environment is finally where it needs to be.
This recognition occurred when a colleague in her summer doctoral program suggested she was a good fit for the Music For All Advocacy in Action for Concert Band Recruitment, Engagement, and Retention Award.
“I am incredibly proud of how far the Band program has come,” Ms. Papandrea said, after being notified that they had won the award.
This award recognizes Proctor’s ability to retain and grow the band community while establishing and maintaining a positive atmosphere.
Her motto “Leave the drama at the door,” has helped to foster a nurturing community that encourages students to focus more on bettering themselves and the ensemble.
“The band environment is welcoming of all people with different personalities and backgrounds. We all strive to see eachother grow and make progress in our musical careers,” said Sophomore Jayda Perry.
Ms. Papandrea has tried to keep the band ever evolving to fit the needs of every student in the program.
“We wouldn't be able to grow if it weren't for the cycle of bringing new kids in and welcoming them or if Ms. Papandrea didn't help us grow and realize that there is so much more to ourselves than what we originally thought,” Junior Maura Thompson said.
Ms. Papandrea is extremely proud of the band group she has, and her aspiring goals for the future include encompassing more students in the program and making a more seamless transition for the elementary students joining the program.
