On March 20th, the 40th U.S. Army Band performed at Proctor High School beginning with the triumphant sounds of “The Star Spangled Banner” as students faced the flag, many with hands over their hearts.
‘’I know two of the people in the Band personally. Two of them are music educators,’’ says music teacher Ms. Papandrea about bringing the band to Proctor.
The 14 band members had a theme for the concert: movie soundtracks. Some of the movies they chose to play music from were: Star Wars, Moana, and Mission Impossible. In between every song they played, they always had a story to tell that brought the music to life.
Some audience members were bobbing their heads to the beat while others were dancing, including Principal McLemore.
‘’I liked ‘’Come and Get Your Love’’ because it sounded good,’’ Freshman Ash Lees said.
Students enjoyed the variety of instruments including flutes, clarinets, bongo drums, cymbals, and many more. ‘’I liked when the guy with the trumpet did the solo part. It was cool,’’ says 9th grader Julianna Flanders.
This concert was the finale of Music In Our Schools month. The busy month included a District Band Concert and a three-day band trip to New York including going to the “Les Misérables” play as well as a visit to Niagara Falls.
