University of South CarolinaI went to high school in Anderson, SC and moved to Columbia after graduating from TL Hanna High. I taught at Camden High School for six years, where I received the 2018 Teacher of the Year Award. This will be my second year teaching Algebra 2 Honors and Geometry Honors at GCA. When I'm not hiding out in my classroom, I enjoy reading, playing video games, and being in the outdoors playing with my dogs.
Prerequisite: Algebra 1
This course is designed to provide students with a strong background in algebraic concepts and processes. Topics include understanding algebraic and geometric representations of functions, quadratic, square root, and absolute value functions; rational and exponential functions; and geometric structure and patterns. Additional topics include conic sections, logarithmic functions, and sequences. Along with traditional computational methods, students use graphing calculators and/or computer software as tools for problem solving. This course provides a depth of rigor, complexity, challenges and creativity beyond the standard level course as outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. This course is more challenging than standard level courses in order to foster growth for advanced learners.
Prerequisite: Algebra 1
This course is designed to provide students with the study of visual patterns. Topics will include geometric structure, geometric patterns, geometry of location, geometry of size, and geometry of shape. This includes an in-depth study of reasoning, polygons, congruence, similarity, right triangles, circles, and transformations. Emphasis will be placed on student discovery and exploration, as well as formulating and defending conjectures. Students will use a variety of approaches, such as coordinate, transformational, and axiomatic systems. This course provides a depth of rigor, complexity, challenges and creativity beyond the standard level course as outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. This course is more challenging than standard level courses in order to foster growth for advanced learners.
