8 Lessons Grade 6th-8th
Calling all budding engineers! Challenge your students to design and prototype solutions with BOLT+, classroom supplies, and their creativity.
BOLT+ is a round robot, but build on top of it, and it can be anything you want it to be. In this challenge, design a costume for your BOLT+ robot that represents you. Then add a program with fun sounds, lights, and images on the BOLT+ screen and express yourself!
BOLT+ is nimble, fast, and can get out of nearly any situation. But first things first: What situation is BOLT+ going to get out of? In this lesson, you’ll create an obstacle course for BOLT+ and program it to drive through half of the course while you get to take over the driver’s seat for the second half.
Did you know that you can use BOLT+ and craft materials to pop balloons? What materials will you use to create your popper? How many balloons can you pop using BOLT+?
How much weight can BOLT+ carry before coming to a halt? Before you find out, you’ll need to design a chariot for your BOLT+ that will carry as much weight as possible. Can you keep BOLT+ moving over the whole course?
Get ready to play a game of bumper cars with BOLT+, just like at the amusement park. But before you can play, you’ll need to design a car for your BOLT+ that will protect it from other cars and its surroundings.
One of the features of BOLT+ is its ability to send IR messages between robots! Use IR to create a game of laser tag with your classmates and design a fun room for BOLT+ to play in.
BOLT+ is speedy but, because it’s a sphere, can have some trouble going up ramps. In this lesson you’ll see just how much of an incline BOLT+ can climb and test out what you can do to push BOLT+ even further.
BOLT+ can roll but can it drive? Take your best shot at designing a car with a BOLT+ engine. Then put BOLT+ in the driver’s seat and compete against your peers to see whose vehicle travels the furthest.
