Writing: Letter Formation and Features of a Sentence

We are starting off the year simply reviewing expectations in writing and working into writing sentences more independently. As students become more comfortable sharing their thinking through speaking, they will find more confidence in sharing their thinking through writing. One phrase we help them become familiar with is "if you can say it, then you can write it".  We are working on providing them the tools to make them successful in doing so.

Correct spelling is not a priority in early writing. Help your child feel more comfortable in sharing through writing by helping them hear the sounds in words and assign letters to those sounds, but avoid correcting their spelling on every word unless it's applicable to the focus of the week.
