Pick Five
All Granite educators looking to add to or improve their use of technology in the classroom are invited to attend any of our Pick Five sessions. Topics for 2019-2020 will be announced in our Ed Tech Newsletter each month. You can also find them listed below.
Sessions will be repeated twice each month: the first Tuesday of the month in the Ed Tech lab at the GEC (D-228) and the third Tuesday of the month at the Technology Learning Center (5300 W Cherrywood Lane, West Valley City).
All Granite educators are welcome to sign up to attend any of the sessions. Relicensure points are available. Attend at least 5 of the sessions and complete a portfolio assignment to receive 1 USBE credit.

September 18 - The New Google Classroom
Google Classroom is a free Google app (with our district G-Suite for Education subscription) that allows teachers to easily share resources, distribute and collect assignments, send feedback, and more. If you've used Google Classroom before, they made some major updates this year. We'll go over the basics of setting up and using Google Classroom, take a look at the changes, a explore how using G-Suite Apps like Docs, Slides, and Forms can make classroom assignments a breeze.

October 16 - Get SMART!
Wondering what to do with that SMART Board in your classroom? This session is for you. We will delve into the basic tools of the SMART Notebook software and the SMART Ink add on that lets you write on web pages and document camera projections. We will learn how to create simple SMART Notebook lessons using free resources from the SMART Notebook Gallery Tab, and finally we will learn how to download and edit ready made lessons from the SMART Exchange website.

November 20 - G-Suite
Advance your skills with the tools in G-Suite. We'll share some ideas for taking your use of Google Docs, Slides, Forms, Sheets, and Drawings in your teaching to the next level.

December 18 - Google Apps, Extensions, and Add-Ons
Learn how you can make your use of Google and Chromebooks more efficient by using Google Apps, Extensions, and Add-Ons. We'll share several of our favorites and provide you with time to find some of your own.

January 15 - HyperDocs
Making the shift to 21st century teaching just got a whole lot easier with HyperDocs! On the outside a HyperDoc looks like just a colorful Google doc with links, but when you dig in deeper you’ll find a research-based digital lesson with interactive elements tailored to each student. In this session, you'll experience a HyperDoc just as your students would, learn what HyperDocs are (and aren't), and examine the pedagogy behind HyperDocs and best practices for creating and using HyperDocs with your students. You will also have time to find existing HyperDocs you can adapt to meet your needs and begin to create your own from a template or from scratch.

February 19 - Digital Assessment and Feedback
Learn about a variety of digital tools and strategiesMarch that will make assessment and providing feedback in your classroom more effective, authentic, and engaging.

March 19 - Utah's Online Library
Utah's Online Library is one of the best but most underutilized resources available to Utah teachers. We'll explore many of the incredible resources for research and lesson design available in UOL.

April 16 - Gamify Your Curriculum
How is learning inspired? In this session, you will engage in a fun gamification experience where you will learn while you play. As you engage in the challenges at each level of the game you will gain a deeper understanding of gamification, take a look at computational thinking, investigate the Hour of Code, and explore a variety of technology tools that make all this possible.
