SafeUT
SafeUT is a valuable resource available to Utah students and families, offering immediate and confidential support for any size crisis or concern. Through the SafeUT App, students can talk or text with licensed counselors at any time and no cost. The SafeUT App also allows students to report safety concerns anonymously. These concerns, or tips, are collected and distributed to school personnel and Granite District Police, as needed. Tips may be submitted for a variety of reasons - including bullying, threats of violence, concerns for the well-being of self or others, emergencies, and more. Social/Emotional Learning
Did you know that just like teachers, school counselors have a set of standards for learning and instruction that guide their work? It's true! These standards help to ensure that consistent, high-quality learning opportunities are provided for students in the areas of academic achievement, social-emotional development, multicultural and global citizenship, and college and career readiness. These standards, referred to as Mindsets and Competencies, are outlined in the Utah College and Career Readiness School Counseling Model. All of our Churchill school counseling lessons and presentations are directly tied to one or more of these Mindsets and Competencies. Included below are some of the social-emotional based lessons and presentations from our year. Feel free to take a look!
Respect
Respect is one of our Graduate of Granite Characteristics and an essential component of every student's social and emotional well-being. Students who feel respected at school are more likely to engage in learning, participate in group work and activities, attend school regularly, and succeed academically. Throughout this lesson, students learn the meaning of respect, what it looks like both in and out of school, research behind why respect is so important, and valuable strategies for demonstrating respect to self and others in their thoughts, words, and actions.

Resilience
Resilience (in conjunction with Hard Work) is another one of our Graduate of Granite Characteristics. Resilience is the ability persevere through challenges and difficulties. It entails mental toughness and adaptability - sticking with our goals and endeavors when things get hard, and making adjustments when needed. In this lesson, students learn to build resilience by recognizing past successes - times when they have overcome big things - and using these for encouragement when new challenges arise. Students also learn that resilience is strengthened by hard work and perseverance, positive thinking, valued relationships, and asking for help when necessary.
Skills for Success
In this Skills for Success lesson, students are taught a variety of strategies to maximize their achievement and personal growth through junior high and beyond. Strategies range from daily organization and planning to time management, respect for self and others, asking for help, and self-care.

The Power of Attitude
Attitude can be a powerful force for good in all of our lives. It can motivate us to act, face fears, conquer challenges, and even change. Author Charles Swindol explained that we always have a choice regarding the attitude we will embrace for the day. We can't always choose the challenges we face, the ways others treat us, or the circumstances we find ourselves in, but we can choose our attitude. He then added the following: "I am convinced that life is ten percent what happens to me and ninety percent how I react to it. And so it is with you - [you] are in charge of your attitude.” This lesson is a great reminder to students of the significance of attitude in their own lives - their relationships, interactions with teachers and peers, personal goals and achievements, struggles, and more.
Stress Management
Stress is a natural part of life - it's our mind and body's way of responding to the demands and pressures of life. Not all stress is bad - some stress is actually good, motivating us to act and achieve. Too much stress, however, places strain on our physical and emotional health and limits our ability to function. This lesson provides students with a number of skills and strategies for managing the many stressors in their lives.

Suicide Prevention & Awareness
Life can be challenging, but every step forward is worth it. Suicide prevention starts with awareness, open conversations, and support. Recognizing warning signs—such as withdrawal, hopelessness, or sudden mood changes—can help save lives. Encouraging connection, resilience, and seeking help when needed are key. Resources like school counselors, SafeUT and the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline are always available. No one has to face their struggles alone—together, we can lift each other up and remind every individual that their journey is worth the climb. 💙
