"Children learn more from what you are than what you teach." – W.E.B. Du Bois
In today’s world, where miscommunication, division, and social media often shape our interactions, it is more important than ever for parents and teachers to model the behaviour we want to see in our children. Children absorb not only what we say but how we say it and how we treat others. This is why using polite words like “please” and “thank you,” and speaking respectfully to staff—even in challenging moments—is so vital.
We kindly ask for your support in reinforcing these values at home by reducing screen time and dedicating more moments to “talk time” or playing games together. These simple actions create strong foundations for positive communication and respectful relationships that will benefit your child throughout life.
Thank you for your support as always.
Enjoy the weekend!
🍽️ School Meals Price Change
Our catering provider, Nourish, has informed us that due to rising food and labour costs, the price of school meals will increase slightly.
From April, the cost of a children’s meal will increase by 10p, changing from £2.40 to £2.50.
This small increase will help maintain the quality of ingredients, the variety of meals offered, and the level of service provided by the catering team. After this change, the price will remain fixed for the next 12 months.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

🏅Travel for Life Gold Award – Congratulations Grafton!🚴♂️
We are delighted to share that Grafton Primary School has been awarded Gold in recognition of our achievements in the Travel for Life programme.
A huge well done to our Active Travel Lead, Miss Ahmed, for her dedication to promoting healthy living and sustainable travel across the school. We would also like to congratulate all the children who recently took part in our Year 5 Bikeability sessions and showed fantastic enthusiasm and commitment to developing their cycling skills.
Active travel is an important part of life at Grafton. We are proud to take part in both the Travel for Life programme and the Walk to School programme, helping our pupils build healthy habits while also caring for the environment.
As a school, we are continuing to work towards our Healthy School Award, encouraging our whole community to make positive lifestyle choices. This also links to Article 24 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which states that children have the right to healthy food, clean water and a healthy lifestyle.
Thank you to all the children, staff and families who support active travel at Grafton!
🌿 OPAL - Outdoor Play and Learning🍲
We are excited to be creating a new Mud Kitchen area for the children to enjoy outdoor imaginative play! To help equip this space, we would greatly appreciate any donations of old or unused kitchen items from home.
If you have any of the following that you no longer need, we would love to give them a new life in our mud kitchen:
Pots and pans 🍳
Cooking utensils (wooden spoons, ladles, whisks, etc.) 🥄
Chopping boards 🔪
Mixing bowls 🥣
Muffin trays or baking tins 🧁
Colanders or sieves 🍝
These items do not need to be in perfect condition, just clean and safe for children to use.
Donations can be brought into school and given to the office, for the attention of Ms Wigley or Miss Winter. Thank you for supporting our outdoor learning and helping us create a fun and creative space for the children!
Thank you for your continued support.
