Shall the Board of Directors of the Gladbrook-Reinbeck Community School District in the Counties of Tama, Black Hawk, Grundy, and Marshall, State of Iowa, be authorized to contract indebtedness and issue general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $16,500,000 to provide funds to build, furnish, and equip a classroom addition to its secondary school, with related remodeling and improvements, and site improvements?

On November 5, 2024, voters will have the opportunity to vote on Phase Two of the plan which will be a new classroom addition to replace the outdated 1921 portion of the secondary school building.

What are the issues of the 1921 building?Β
No ADA accessible restrooms or elevator
Significant and costly maintenance issues
A problematic roof has caused leaks and damage that have been fixed through short-term stop-gap measures
HVAC (air quality and ventilation) systems within the building are past their useful life and require replacement

A STRATEGIC PLAN COMES TOGETHER!
A community task force collaborated to identify crucial improvements and crafted a long-term facility master plan. They met with the school board twice, over six hours, to refine the plan.
The finalized three-phase plan, completed in Gladbrook, embodies a unified vision of the task force and endorsed by members of both the Reinbeck and Gladbrook communities.
PHASE ONE

Complete infrastructure updates and additions to the Elementary School, including a secure entryway using SAVE funding provided by the State of Iowa, which does not impact local property tax rates.
PHASE TWO
Β November 5, 2024 VoteΒ
Build new classrooms on the current secondary site surrounding the existing building to address significant physical and functional learning environment and infrastructure needs of the 1921 building.
PHASE THREE
Β in 5-10 yearsΒ
Remove the shuttered (closed) 1921 building, add a gym and performance space, and expand the cafeteria, student commons, and instructional spaces.

333 Gladbrook Reinbeck residents, about 13% of the overall district population, participate in a community survey. Results are shared with the school board and posted on the district website.

Residents are invited to participate in a Facility Task Force. 25 community members participate in 6 meetings, totaling over 15 hours. A consensus is reached with the School Board and the Task Force on a three phase facility improvement approach.
