29th Spirit Day - Wear your GRETNA Gear!

Dear Families,

We've had another successful week of school!  This week we had our school pictures.  If your child was not at school when we took photos on Thursday, we will be having retakes on Tuesday, October 24th.

We have several PTO events coming up, with our first meeting September 12th at 6:30 PM.  All are welcome!  Kindergarten Family night is on September 14th on the playground, and finally Chipotle Dining Night on September 19th.   The PTO is gearing up for the largest fundraiser of the year, The Falling Waters Fun Run!  Parents are invited to school on this date to cheer on their students.  More information will be coming home soon, with our running times listed in "Upcoming Dates".

As we look ahead,  please note that there is no school next Monday, September 4th or Tuesday, September 5th.

Enjoy the long weekend!

ABC's of Student Success

A is for Attendance

Attendance is a  critical factor in any child's school success. Children should attend school every day except in cases of illness or emergency. It is impossible to replace the learning that happens on any school day with makeup work. Regular attendance and promptness are good habits that are. expected and appreciated at all levels of schooling and in the workplace. This year, make school a priority in your household. Commit to excellence in attendance. Your child's future depends on it!

We are beginning a recognition program for students that attend everyday!  At our monthly assemblies, those students who are here for the entirety of the month will be put in a drawing for prizes and recognition!

Parents are able to access their child's lunch account online.  Visit our Food & Nutrition Services website here.  Accounts and payment information can be found here.

If you should have any questions regarding your child’s lunch account, please feel free to contact our lunch paraprofessional, Mrs. Kelly Leahy at  402-332-3938 or kleahy@gpsne.org.

Students are welcome to celebrate their birthdays at school!  Please be sure treats are store bought.  Check with your child's teacher if they are a nut-free classroom.

To help your child's birthday celebration run smoothly, please send the treats with your child to school in the morning.

Guests are welcome to join us at lunch. There will be special "Guest" tables set up in the lunchroom for you and your child to eat.  Your child will not be allowed to invite another student to eat with them at the guest table.

We do ask that you limit lunch visits to birthdays only until after Labor Day to allow for us to teach expectations and help students learn the routines and procedures.  Thank you for your help and understanding.

Operation School Bell partners with JCPenney, allowing students in need to shop each fall for new school appropriate clothing, and may choose a brand new book. Follow-up data indicates that participation in Operation School Bell has a positive effect on student self-confidence, attendance, behavior and peer relations.

Wearing the wrong shoes can impact a student safety or success during PE activities.  Shoes like boots, sandals, crocs, slip-ons, even dress shoes can get in the way with simple activities like running , jumping, and stopping.  It is important for students to wear proper footwear (ie. tennis shoes, running shoes, or sneakers) in order to participate safely in class activities and to be successful with those activities. Your cooperation for their safety and active participation is very much appreciated.

For our first day, our car riders were all picked up within 15 minutes through the pick-up loop!  Thank you everyone for following the signage!

Also, thank you again for all of your patience and flexibility during our arrival and dismissal processes.  I know everyone is working hard to create a safe and smooth flow.
