Dear Falling Waters Families,

Can you believe that we are already midway through April? This year seems to be flying by! In many ways, I know we wish things would slow down, but there is plenty ahead to look forward to as well!

Have you heard that we have eggs currently being cared for in 5th grade and more coming in our first grade classrooms?! Our eggs are chicken, pheasant, and duck; and, we are having twins! We also have mealworms (4th grade) and caterpillars (1st grade). I've included photos below.

As the end of the year approaches, I've also been working with our teachers in planning special events, such as Field Day, with Covid safe protocols. Once we put all of the details in place, we will be sure to send information to all of you!

Preschool Information

Thank you for your interest in the Gretna Early Education Center classes for 2021-2022.

The Gretna Early Education Center will begin taking applications for the 2021-2022 school year March 15, 2021. An application form will be found online on the Gretna Public Schools website. Please continue to refer to the www.gpsne.org website for announcements regarding the opening of the application process.

There is a $40 application fee. Application fees are nonrefundable if your child is offered placement in one of the preschool classrooms. Those who are not placed will be refunded the fee.


The application will include an opportunity for you to rank your building preferences, along with your preference for morning or afternoon session times. At this point, specific times are not set for the 2021-2022 school year, as those will be established after the elementary schools have announced the building schedules for next school year.


All applications must be received by April 15, 2021. Following that date, the preschool director will conduct a lottery drawing, placing students in classrooms according to the preferences listed on the application. The more flexibility you indicate on your preferences for accepting a placement, the greater the likelihood of having your child secure a preschool spot.


Once all class lists are full, remaining applications will be drawn randomly and placed on a waiting list.

Children who are placed in a preschool classroom will be notified of their placement via mail after April 19, 2021.


K-5 Placement Information


Dear Falling Waters Elementary Parents and Guardians,


Meetings for placement in classes next year will soon begin. As parents and educators, we desire the same thing for our children - the best possible education. We are committed to every child’s success. It is essential that equitable, compatible, balanced classes be assembled that will optimize each child’s learning potential. You can be sure that, throughout the placement process, our concern will be to assign your child a room in which he or she will flourish, both academically and socially. At each grade level, the classroom teachers and our professional staff will meet to provide input for placement for the coming year. As you may know, each of our classes is comprised of a balanced group of children. There are many factors that are taken into consideration when placing a student in a class.


The factors include:

• Male to Female ratio

• Special Education and regular education ratio

• Learning style of the students

• Teaching style of the teachers

• Classroom dynamics and discipline balance


The professional staff has the responsibility of determining the best placement for each child. If you feel your child has an extenuating need that is not known to the school, please submit your concerns in writing to me by April 19th, so that I may share it with the team. Please do not make requests for individual teachers, but rather give us necessary information that will enable us to select the best group placement for your child. We appreciate your input and will give it serious consideration. By following this procedure, our teachers will be able to contact students in mid-August to inform them of their room placement. Through working together, we are confident that we can provide the best possible instructional program for every student.

At our PTO board meeting, we voted on our 2020-21 board members! We would like to welcome the following members for next year:

At this meeting, it was also decided to save funds for the playground equipment for next year. Mrs. Hellbusch and the board will be working with the Boy Scouts and Eagles Scouts for a Gaga Ball Pit and games to be painted on the blacktop this summer.
