2019 Coed Varsity Soccer Team Wins MPA D South Sportsmanship Award

The 2019 Coed varsity Soccer team wins Greater Portland Christian School’s (GPCS) first Maine Principal Association (MPA) Class D South sportsmanship banner in the sport of soccer. The team was presented their banner during halftime of the class C Boys State Championship at Falmouth High School on Saturday November 9th 2019.
The team was coached by Chris Spaulding and assisted by Ali Gant.
While this is the first sportsmanship banner in the sport of soccer, GPCS has a long history of winning sportsmanship banners in other sports. The 1986-1987 Boys basketball team coached by Wayne Farrington, the 2002-2003 Boys Basketball team coached by James Bauer and the 2013-2014 Boys Basketball team coached by Travis Bush all won the MPA Class D West/South Sportsmanship Banners.
Girls Basketball Teams that won MPA Class D West/South Sportsmanship Banners were: 1987-1988 girls basketball team coached by Howard Doucette. The following three teams were all coached by Keith Dawson; the 2010-2011 girls basketball team, the 2014-2015 girls’ basketball team, and the 2015-2016 girls’ basketball team. The 2016-2017 girls’ basketball team coached by Jeff Mears also won the award.
The baseball team coached by Adam Howard, won the 2013 MPA Class D West Sportsmanship Award.
