S.J Portfolio

My name is Sofia Juarez and I was born on February 2nd, 2011 at 2:27 pm. I was born during the South Texas ice storm, and my mom barely had enough time to get to the hospital before all the roads froze. I have two parents, Nancy Silva and Mauricio Juarez. My mom was born in Houston, Texas and my dad was born in Cordoba, Mexico, making me Mexican-American. I have one older brother, Aidan Juarez, who is in the 9th grade. Aidan is only one year and three months older than me. We are very close in age, so naturally, it is in our job description as siblings to annoy each other as much as possible.

My number one hobby and talent is baking. I love to bake new things and see what works in recipes and what doesn't. My mom and dad don't like the mess but both enjoy being able to taste test everything. Another one of my hobbies is reading. In one part of my house, we have filled up the entire bookshelf wall with so many memories and books. I also have a large bookshelf of my own in my room. One of my other hobbies is collecting objects from the Harry Potter and Percy Jackson universe, mostly because I have grown up watching and reading it. Finally, I love doing different makeup styles, such as dark academia and clean girl makeup. I find so many ideas on apps and websites like YouTube and Pinterest. I like to experiment using what I have.

Some of my accomplishments are making the varsity choir in 7th grade and not being nervous about singing alone. I used to have a horrible fear of singing solo, but I overcame that fear. Another accomplishment is that I memorized 2 baking recipes, which are cookies and a cake. They turned out better than I had hoped and my whole family loved them. Another accomplishment I have achieved is volunteering at multiple races. One of the races that I have volunteered at was the 2023 and 2024 Ironman. I passed out Gatorade and small snacks to the runners and cheered them on as they crossed the finish line.

I have several goals for this school year. The first is to have an A/B honor roll or higher in my core classes. I will achieve this by completing my work on time and planning what I will do each day. My next goal is to make region choir. Last year I was only one placement away from making the region choir and this year I want to improve by at least two placements. My final goal is to see at least two concerts. I would love to see Melanie Martinez and Cage The Elephant. I grew up with their music and have always wanted to see them live.
