My name Roxanna Bermudez was something my parents chose on the way to the hospital while listening to a song, Rosanna by TOTO. The x in my name was influenced by Mom when she remembered a girl from high school with the same name, and she was gorgeous. At around 9 pm on June 30th I was born at Houston Methodist a Texas hospital, and even though I arrived before the due date I was perfectly fine even after a while in the NICU. The year was 2011 and my brother was 6 and I was his new baby sister. I lived in my grandparent's house for around 5 years while I went to a daycare, a Catholic private school, and then a public school. I moved houses into the current one I live in and switched schools. The school I went to during 1st to 5th wasn’t the best so I switched schools back to the one I used to be in, and that's how I'm here.
During all that time I developed a love for reading. When I was younger my mom would read me a book before bed, so now I read in my spare time. I’ve tried all kinds of hobbies from roller skating to diamond art, but nothing can compete with my love for drawing. I would try new hobbies every time I got the chance, and even though I found crocheting to be too hard, I made blankets by finger crocheting. I’d take time each day to finish my project, and would soon become skilled at it. The time I took to get my own projects done would sometimes take months. Although I gave myself many hobbies to work on, I still was open to trying new things.
When I tried fishing with my dad for the first time I had major luck and success. During the 2-hour fishing trip, I caught a 24in black drum and was able to give my friend’s family some dinner. The memory was such a great one because I put so much work into learning something completely new. One of my other favorite memories was when I was attending a UIL event and won 2nd place for the whole district. I was so proud because I put so much effort into my category. I love having been able to get all those opportunities.
My goal over the summer was to finish a book series, but even though I spent every minute of my afternoon reading, I've barely read half of all the series. When I have the chance I want to be able to get a few steps closer to finishing my goal. In addition to that I want more of a chance to get straight A’s because last year I was so close to my goal, but I ended up with one B. Becoming student of the month would be a great opportunity. I’d love to be known for something good, and something good only. It’s such a reach for myself, but I will do anything. There is so much I can look forward to and patience will get me there.
