Nathan Aron Wong is a 9th grader at North Shore High School. He was born on April 16 2011 at 8:00 a.m. in Houston, Texas. He was born into a family of multiple cultures. On his mom's side of the family, his grandparents are of Italian and Mexican descent and migrated to Texas in the 1960s. On his dad's side, his grandparents are from a combination of Ecuadorian, Chinese, and Mexican descent. That side of the family migrated to Texas in the 1980s. Over the generations, the families may come from different parts of the world, but the value of family and traditions continue to live on.
Nathan has always been a curious and creative person. As a toddler, Nathan liked to build train tracks, and puzzles, and use cardboard to create anything his imagination would think of. Such as armor, rocket ships, and cars. This started a lifelong hobby of LEGO construction and engineering because each different piece made him look closely at every angle to build his build. He hoped that the world would see his work at Lego Con. This dream is what helps him push forward. Another interest that also started as a young boy was paleontology. This started was when Nathan was introduced to Dinosaur Train and Dino Dan educational shows. What his parents thought was just a phase, became a passion for paleontology. Nathan has visited lots of museums across the country to see the paleontology exhibits that have exclusive fossils, for example, Sue at the Field Museum, the iconic New York museum for "Night at The Museum", and Victoria at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Today he has read tons of encyclopedias, and artifact books, and has had one-on-one conversations with experts and explorers. He owns 2 artifacts of the ancient world that were gifted by paleontologists. An old fish tooth from the Devonian age and dimetrodon dung from the Permian age.
Nathan has achieved numerous accomplishments throughout his young life. Nathan started drawing in preschool and by elementary his friends and he joined their talents to create and sell their comic book series called "Sword Stories". Performing on stage is one dream Nathan made come true by being an actor in a Main Street Theater production. He was part of the behind-the-scenes by collaborating with other writers to create the storylines and create the props.
The play got a standing ovation and Nathan was so proud of his performance. This year in 9th grade, Nathan has been chosen to be a part of North Shore's production of "little shop of horrors". He is the only freshmen that will have a role in the musical. Another accomplishment that Nathan has achieved was that he was part of the UIL Elementary competition for 2 years and won both years for their combined efforts.
His accomplishments have made him look for new mountains to climb, and new goals to set. The first goal he has is to be a part of LEGO con so everyone can see his work, and become a LEGO designer. The second goal is to make a new comic series to continue off where the last one ended and bring new adventures to this reader audience. the most important goal for Nathan is, his career to become a paleontologist. He has done extensive research to prepare him for the journey of traveling the world and discovering new species of ancient animals. His final goal is to rebuild his Lego city bigger and better than the last one.

Do the write thing
The world is full of kind people, but there are those who endanger us, mistreat us, and make our lives worse. People like this choose to be violent and they can do this in different ways like physical, verbal, and mental. The violence that I have experienced is verbal violence and the ways it has affected my way of life and it made me scared and sad. Verbal violence can make victims think bad about themselves.
There are several reasons why bullies choose to be verbally violent. It is mostly caused when bullies think that they are better than the victims in what they have in money, clothing, cars, or even electronics. Sometimes bullies have been taunted or mistreated themselves in that way so they look for a victim to take it out on and it becomes a cycle. Another common theory is that one bully is jealous of their victim because they might be smarter than them, have a fun life, or have more friends than them. This affects the victims’ self esteem, their mental health, and fear of going to school.

This has taken a heavy toll on my life
as a victim of verbal violence. In elementary, it started out as name calling, taunting, and teasing. Then every year it got worse because the bullies knew I was an easy target for them. Every time I tried to find a way to stop it, it always backfired because the bullies knew I would tell the teacher and they would be punished so they found other ways to tease me. After talking to counselors and learning why bullies did this to me, I knew how to defend myself. I knew that I had everything they wished they had, like traveling the world, learning about my cultures, dining out at different restaurants, and having a family.
One of the many ways we can prevent this world-wide problem is for bullies to think before they say anything violent. Like, is it necessary to say, hurtful to say, and how it will make the person feel. As the victim, ask “why did you say that?”, “what were you thinking when you said that?”, and “do you think you could say something nicer than that?”. These are just some examples of what the victim can tell the bullies. Other ways we can solve this problem in school is with a warning, detention, and counseling.
