Catalina E.

Biography

During a cold stormy winter, a baby girl named Catalina Espinoza was born on January 11 of the year 2011. Her mother, Christina Espinoza, had her at 41 years old and Catalina was a result of a high risk pregnancy. Luckliy, she and her mother were both safe and her mother would grow to be the person Catalina looked up to the most. Catalina was born in the Womens' Hospital of Texas in Houston, Texas where she and her mom stayed for a couple days with the assistance of doctors and nurses. After a few days of staying in the hospital, she was finally brought home to her house in Houston, Texas in which lived her 2 older sisters, 1 older brother, her mother, father, and a puppy whose name was Trinket. Her mom took care of her while on maternity leave for the first weeks of her life but when she had returned back to work, Catalina was left with her tia which took care of her for the next 3 years of her life. Catalina's educational career started when she was enrolled in pre-K in Woodland Acres Elementary School in the district GPISD (Galena Park Independent School District). While in this school, she developed a passion for art. Her elementary art teacher, Mrs. Loyd, made art fun for Catalina. Over the years she's won awards for her art in programs such as the Houston Rodeo and VASE. Catalina spent 6 years of her life dedicated to getting an elementary education in which she graduated in the year 2022. Her favorite subjects have always been mostly extracurriculars such as art but she also takes joy in learning new things like in core classes, her by far favorite core class is math. Catalina is currently attending Woodland Acres Middle School located in Houston, Texas in hopes of graduating with flying colors.

Since a child, Catalina was always caught drawing on things and often got in trouble for it, little did her parents know she had a talent for drawing. In her free time she goes on her phone to draw digitally when she doesn't have access to drawing supplies. Catalina enjoys various hobbies such as video games, board games and makeup but by far she loves to do lots of different forms of art such as random doodling, digital art and when she takes things seriously, she practices realism art.  Catalina is also very talented in math. She finds it fun to solve math problems and practices mental math during everyday life. Just simple things whether it be calculating how much time we have left in a clock or dividing things evenly to help her friends share food. Although Catalina excels in every subject, she doesn't enjoy reading as she claims it “hurts her brain”. This is why she tends to avoid it when she can. Even under pressure, Catalina still finds a way to manage when she is struggling with school.

With Catalinas eager love for art, comes awards. In her 7th grade year she won a platinum medal during the art competition VASE. She would have to study her art and explain her reasoning behind the art, her goals with this piece, and how accomplished it. She was interviewed by a judge and with lots of tension from other nervous students, she answered with such inspiring words that won her a platinum medal. Catalina is super proud of this award and she plans to win more art competitions in the future. Her placement in Advanced Art is an accomplishment worth recognizing. Throughout her middle school career, she was always placed in advanced/ Pre-AP classes which makes her super proud. With every advanced class Catalina is placed in, she is grateful for and will always push herself to do more.

Catalina is passionate about her grades as she wants to be just like her role model, her mom. Catalina sees her mom as an example in modern time of breaking gender standards in today's society as she makes more money than her husband, Catalina's dad. With every test that she masters, every question she correctly answers, Catalina is proud and will strive to complete her educational career with the same passion as now going forward. One reason Catalina is so passionate about getting good grades is to disprove the myth that women “aren't smart”. She plans to not slack off and holds high expectations of herself. Catalina is a firm believer in equal rights and equal pay. She will continue to fight to prove to people that women can do just as much men can do. Most of Catalina's goals revolve around her family. She sees herself spoiling her kids with the things she never had growing up and buying her parents a house. Family is super important in Catalina's life and the joy her mom gets from seeing her good grades makes Catalina happy. She wants her family to see her succeed and her older sister being a doctor encourages Catalina to be the best. She believes that she will have an impactful life and will raise her kids to be good people without having to worry about money. To conclude all that has been stated so far, Catalina is a passionate girl who holds herself up to high standards to ensure a successful future for her and her family.
