Fashion Through the Decades

A collection of clothing aiming to represent decades from the 1940s to the 1990s through a modern lens.

By Ibby Eldredge

Over the past semester, I have studied the cultural changes of six decades, creating a garment for each. Although not entirely historically accurate (rather, a dramatization), every aspect of each look represents the political, social, and artistic climate at the time, from the silhouette to the thread choice. Now, I present a collection providing a visual timeline of how society, environment, art, and politics have impacted fashion, specifically in the United States, over the course of 60 years.
