Fashion and style photography is a genre of photography devoted to displaying clothing and other fashion items. Fashion photography is most often conducted for advertisements or fashion magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, Esquire or GQ.
Over time, fashion photography has developed its own aesthetic in which the clothes and fashions are enhanced by the presence of exotic locations or accessories.
Because of its image of being “glamorous,” “stylish,” “fun” and even “lucrative,” fashion and style photography has become an industry entirely on its own.
Techniques and Styles:
Fashion photography is all about capturing the essence of fashion and style through visually stunning and creative images. Some common techniques and styles used in fashion photography include:
1. Lighting: Fashion photography relies heavily on lighting to create the desired mood and atmosphere. Photographers use a variety of lighting techniques, from natural light to studio lighting setups, to create dynamic and eye-catching images.
2. Composition: Composition is key in fashion photography, as photographers need to create visually interesting images that showcase the clothing and accessories in the best possible way. This often involves using unique angles and perspectives to create a sense of depth and dimension.
3. Retouching: Retouching is an important part of fashion photography, as it allows photographers to enhance and perfect their images. This can involve everything from smoothing out wrinkles and blemishes to adjusting color and contrast to create the desired effect.
Two kinds of Fashion Photography
Fashion Editorial: Fashion editorials are a common type of fashion photography, where photographers work with a team of stylists, makeup artists, and models to create a series of images that tell a story or showcase a particular trend or style.
Commercial Fashion Photography: Commercial fashion photography is used for advertising and marketing purposes. Photographers work with a team of designers and art directors to create images that showcase a particular product or brand in the best possible way.

STEP 1.
RESEARCH and ANSWER the following questions on Style and Fashion Photography on the attached sheet by visiting the link here.

STEP 2.
BRAINSTORM possible locations for your own photo shoot and consider the type of clothing, accessories or products you will photograph. What type of fashion photography are you trying to shoot? (Fall, Winter, Summer, Spring - Casual, Dressy, Formal, Fun etc. Accessories, Sabre Wear etc?)
STEP 3.
The MODEL RELEASE FORM must be filled out before the actual shoot begins and submitted as part of this assignment.

STEP 4.
SHOOT your photos. Your final images should consist of indoor and outdoor photos. You are required to have the following style photos taken both inside and outside.

STEP 5.
Finish answering the questions in the FASHION/STYLE QUESTIONS doc.

Consider: Time of day when shooting, lighting, contrast, position of the model in relation to the camera.
Note: All photography must be taken by you, no stock imagery is allowed.
Fashion and style photography is a dynamic and creative field that has a rich history and a bright future. With new photographers, trends, and technologies emerging all the time, the possibilities for creating stunning and visually captivating images are endless.
Take Full-Length photos
For full-length fashion shots of models, pick interesting and colorful locations that match the clothes, fashion style or accessories you're photographing.
Experiment with natural sunlight and use reflectors to bounce light back on to your models.
Try Tighter Compositions
For tighter shots that fill the frame, you only need to see a suggestion of a background location. Experiment with using your on-camera flash or a budget set of studio lights to capture crisp images that clearly display the clothes and accessories.
