What is SHSM?
The Health and Wellness SHSM gives students in grade 11 and 12 a head start by developing sector-specific skills and knowledge before graduation. It offers the opportunity to explore careers in healthcare and community services, all while earning valuable certifications like First Aid and CPR. Through hands-on experiences and co-op placements, students gain practical skills in fields such as nursing, social work, and nutrition. This program thoroughly prepares students for various post-secondary pathways, including apprenticeships, college, university, or entry-level positions in the workforce.
Pursuing a SHSM enables students to:
Customize their secondary school education to suit their interests and talents
Develop specialized knowledge and skills that are valued by the sector and postsecondary education institutions
Earn credits that are recognized by the sector and postsecondary education institutions
Acquire sector-specific and career-relevant certification and training
