Our Philosophy

All students in our schools, regardless of ability, have the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge they will need to be successful in school and beyond.

Our program is designed specifically for students on Individual Education Plans (IEP’s). These students will have access to additional resources to address their individual strengths and needs—counselling, technology, quiet learning spaces, one-on-one assistance, etc.

Resource Support

Here is a snapshot of what we do:

· We support student learning through direct support as outlined in their Individual Education Plans;

· We collaborate with classroom teachers to set learning goals and teaching strategies to address student needs;

· We assist students with strategies to improve their confidence, self-advocacy, interpersonal skills and general well-being, and

· We act as a liaison between the students, their families and the classroom teachers.

General Learning Strategies (GLE) - Credit Generating Courses

Students who require additional support might be eligible for GLE. In this course, students not only work on completing tasks for their other courses, they also complete assignments focusing specifically on time management, organization, study habits, exam preparation, literacy and numeracy, as needed (Must be approved by LST).

Learning Strategies 1: (GLE1O/GLE2O)

Skills for Success in Secondary School, Grade 9, Open

This course focuses on learning strategies to help students become better, more independent learners. Students will learn how to develop and apply literacy and numeracy skills, personal management skills, and interpersonal and teamwork skills to improve their learning and achievement in school, the workplace, and the community.The course helps students build confidence and motivation to pursue opportunities for success in secondary school and beyond. Prerequisite: For GLE1O and GLE2O – Recommendation of principal (Queen's Printer for Ontario, 2006, p. 27).
