Dear Parent,
Congratulations on your child's decision to become part of the 50 year tradition of athletics at Montcalm Secondary School. The goal of the Athletic Program is to maximize student growth on the field, in the gym, and in the classroom. Players are selected to teams and to starting positions based on ability, attitude and attendance at practice. Should an athlete be unable to attend practice, it is essential that coaches be informed before the absence. A message may be left for any coach at 519-452-2730.
The team always comes first and players are asked to focus on team, rather than personal goals. If your child does not earn a starting position or play during a game, please reinforce our "team first" philosophy. Remind your child that they have several practices each week to have fun, be part of the team and to show coaches they are the best person to put in the game. Academically, students are expected to attend all classes and to keep up with their studies. All players are expected to show respect in the classroom, throughout the school as well as in the community.
Transportation to and from contests will in most cases be by bus. There are, however, certain situations where the cost is prohibitive. In these cases, volunteer drivers will be used. Should the need arise; we would very much appreciate your support.
Finally, it must be understood that our coaches are volunteers, be they teachers or members of the Montcalm community. As such they must be treated with respect. Coaches make the best decisions possible while balancing the needs of both the team and individual students. The Athletic Department at Montcalm is looking forward to another successful season and would appreciate your positive support. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
Ben Baxter
Athletic Director
